Giorgio is qualified as a solicitor-advocate in England and Wales and as an attorney in New York. A graduate of Princeton University, Giorgio obtained his law degree from the University of Oxford and an LLM (International Legal Studies) from New York University School of Law.
Giorgio’s practice focuses on complex, high-value international dispute resolution. He has extensive experience representing sovereign States, State-owned companies and private parties in international dispute resolution proceedings, as well as in non-contentious matters under public international law. Giorgio regularly advises sovereign States on a broad range of issues, including on jurisdictional immunity in the context of judicial proceedings before European courts. Giorgio also delivers practical training in public international law to lawyers from various ministries of States in the Middle East and Africa.
Giorgio’s international arbitration practice encompasses energy and natural resources, financial services and joint ventures disputes. He has represented claimant and respondent parties in investment treaty and commercial arbitrations and he has acted as counsel in institutional and ad hoc arbitrations under the ICSID, ICSID Additional Facility, SCC, ICC, LCIA and UNCITRAL Rules. Most recently, Giorgio has worked on a number of high‑profile investment disputes involving Latin American and European States arising under international investment agreements and treaties, foreign investment laws and contracts.
Giorgio was “recommended” by The Legal 500 2014 (Latin America) and described as a “rising star” in the GAR 100 (9th edition). He was included in Who’s Who Legal’s inaugural listing of the “Future Leaders of International Arbitration – Partners”.
Prior to joining Volterra Fietta, Giorgio was counsel in the international arbitration group of one of the UK’s ‘Magic Circle’ law firms. Before that, he worked in the international arbitration group of a leading global US firm. Giorgio is a regular speaker at conferences on topics of public international law and international dispute resolution and has published on international investment law and arbitration.
